Bald Eagles - Olympic peninsula, June 2011
Driving west along the coast road, the small, unassuming seaside hamlet of Sekiu appeared just as we needed refuelling; a tiny, no-fuss diner overlooking the bay (serving delicious home-made black bean burgers and fries and decent coffee - miracles can happen in America) was a vision, and offered ring-side seats for sparring Bald Eagles just outside the window.
This young bird was relentlessly mobbed by Purple Martins (foreground)
Another half-hour or so enjoying the almost deserted bay and harbour was enough time to become acquainted with at least seven eagles, in various stages of maturity, and all vying to be more accomodating than the next.
