Fieldfares - big numbers in all habitats, including the Dams reedbeds |
Almost a week of extreme weather here on the Yorkshire coast as the Beast marches on, and despite the somewhat challenging conditions I've made it out for a couple of hours every day here in Filey to check on hotspots (as it were) and observe cold-weather movements. So far, the dominant species have been Fieldfares (which are everywhere presently including out on the ice and in the reedbeds at the Dams), Redwings, Lapwings, Snipe, Golden Plovers, Starlings and small numbers of wildfowl. More to follow in the next few posts.
Wigeon are occupying any areas of open water, no matter how tiny.... |
Obligatory! |
Good movements of Lapwings, particularly through the Dams in recent days |
Sparrowhawks are currently more obvious in their pursuit of slim pickings |
Carr Naze and the Brigg looking mighty fine after an early morning snowfall |
Blackbirds are also arriving in good numbers |
Water Pipit at the Dams |
Supplementary feeding is greatly appreciated by our local Tree Sparrows |
Golden Plovers on the move |
