Filey vs The World - October (1)
The positive spin: this October in Filey provided plenty of highlights and some heart-stopping avian spectacles, and I was lucky enough once again to be in the field pretty much every day. The negative: most days involved endless circuits from first light, blistered feet and sore eyes for painfully scant rewards, while rare jewels were tantalisingly dropping onto the coast either side of us...
Goldcrest, Long-tailed Duck
The heart bleeds, I know, and it all balances out anyhow. Off the top of my head - Dotterel, White-rumped Sand, a handful of Yellow-brows, another RB Fly, Black Guillemot, Little Auks, a few Poms, Snow and Lap Bunts, and one of the most dramatic and enthralling falls I've ever witnessed - doesn't sound too shabby in retrospect, but there you go. Some people are just spoilt.
Purple Sandpiper, Snow Bunting, Yellow-browed Warbler
Black Guillemot, Bullfinch, Dotterel
