New Mexico - part six

A final selection of shots from the homestead in the semi-desert of Eldorado. These Scaled Quails were beneath the seed feeder as we pulled in after a day in Santa Fe; instead of bolting, they relied on their (impressive, but ultimately unsuccessful) camouflage within the cacti and brush in the front yard, and remained there, despite my approach within a couple of metres.

If you're tired of hummingbirds, you're tired of life, plain and simple.... a particularly site-faithful, photogenic and territorial Black-chinned (with intimidated male House Finch, below).
